As the world concluded the 2024 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), HERFON, in collaboration with coalition members, took a bold step to spread awareness and spark conversations about this critical issue. On December 10, 2024, International Human Rights Day, the team carried out an impactful outreach at Utako Market, engaging traders, customers, and community members in the fight to end GBV.
The campaign was aimed to educate the public on the realities of GBV, including its types, how to recognize its signs, and practical ways to support survivors. The HERFON team emphasized the importance of challenging harmful gender stereotypes and empowering individuals to act as allies by listening to survivors, believing their experiences, and linking them to appropriate resources for help.
Armed with educational flyers and a commitment to change, the team facilitated interactive discussions, ensuring that the community had the opportunity to ask questions and share insights. The outreach created a platform for understanding the role everyone can play in preventing GBV and fostering a culture of intervention and support.
The messages were warmly received, with many participants commending HERFON’s efforts and acknowledging the importance of addressing GBV within their communities. The event not only raised awareness but also inspired action, reinforcing HERFON’s commitment to building a safer and more equitable society.
HERFON remains steadfast in its mission to combat GBV and urges everyone to join this fight by advocating for survivors, promoting justice, and supporting policies that protect the most vulnerable.
Together, we can create a world free from gender-based violence!
