HERFON Trains Communication Officers on Leveraging Social Media for Family Planning Sensitization

On the 10th of December, 2024, HERFON hosted a dynamic training session at its office, bringing together 11 communication officers from various Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). Facilitated by the experienced Bukola Afeni, the session focused on equipping participants with the skills to effectively leverage social media platforms for advocating government investment in family planning.

Throughout the training, participants gained valuable insights into using social media as a powerful tool for raising awareness and driving public engagement. They learned techniques for crafting impactful messages, using storytelling to connect with audiences, and creating visually appealing content that resonates with diverse online communities. The session also highlighted the importance of data-driven advocacy, showing how to incorporate evidence-based information into their campaigns to strengthen their messaging and influence public opinion.

The group engaged in interactive discussions on practical approaches to increasing visibility, such as targeted campaigns, strategic hashtags, and building collaborations with influencers and media partners. They also explored strategies to tackle common challenges, including managing misinformation and sustaining long-term audience engagement.

By the end of the session, participants were eager to put their newfound knowledge into action. All communication officers shared posts about family planning on their social media platforms, tagging HERFON and acknowledging the project’s funders, Rise Up and Cummins. This collective effort showcased their dedication to raising awareness and driving impactful advocacy for family planning.

HERFON remains committed to empowering its partners with the tools and expertise needed to foster lasting change and ensure government prioritization of family planning.
