The consortium made the disclosure at a technical workshop on the Review of Existing Accountability Framework For Health Security and COVID-19 vaccines in Nigeria, a project supported by African Health Budget Network (AHBN).
The Executive Secretary HERFON Dr Celestine Okorie called for more efficient preparation to tackle health emergencies.
He said the workshop is aimed at reviewing existing accountability frameworks for health security and COVID-19 vaccines in Nigeria, and explore innovative methods to improve accountability processes.
The Program Manager of HERFON, Dr Opeyemi Adeosun highlighted the need for stakeholders to collaborate and build accountability framework from the existing ones.
He noted that there should be indicators that will track activities beyond financing that will bring better result for health security in Nigeria.
The Program Manager Vaccine Network for Disease Control Chika Nwankwo disclosed that accountability and transparency are critical in the health sector, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and potential future health crises.
The Representative of AHBN Memuna Abdullahi disclosed that sccountability and transparency are important in the health security space.
She urged stakeholders to be fully prepared to address recurring emergency health issues.
The workshop highlighted the critical need for accountability and transparency in the health sector, particularly in light of the health security and potential future health crises. The consortium emphasized the importance of collaboration, building accountability frameworks, and developing indicators to track activities beyond financing.
