PARTNERSHIP FOR CHILD AND FAMILYHEALTH (PACFaH) PROJECT.

The PACFaH project is a three-year project (2014 – 2017) funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and managed by HERFON. It is a social accountability investment project implemented through the strategy of building partnership and network to address four key health issues: Nutrition, routine immunisation, family planning (FP) and childhood killer diseases.

This is a coalition of seven indigenous Nigerian civil society organizations who adopted advocacy as a key strategy in tackling problem of poor policy compliance, budgeting and administrative frameworks to advance child and family health in Nigeria, with focus on four issue areas: Child killer diseases- Diarrhea and Pneumonia; Routine Immunization; Nutrition; and Family Planning. The project has recorded intervention success stories in HERFON pilot states some of which are: Creation of Budget line for family planning in the 2015 budget with over 100% increase in 2016 budget with 25% release; Creation of budget line for child spacing in the 2017 Kaduna state budget; and Creation of budget line for family planning in the 2017 Oyo state budget under the SPHCDA amongst others

Achievements

PACFaH Success in Oyo state

Creation of Budget line for family planning in the 2015 budget with over 100% increase in 2016 budget with 25% release.

Creation of budget line for family planning in the 2017 Oyo state budget under the SPHCDA.

Identification and capacity building of Child and Family Health Champions from within the government from the 3 states

Kaduna State

Sustained advocacy and budget tracking for Family planning allocation, releases and effective utilization by CSOs

Creation of budget line for child spacing in the 2017 Kaduna state budget

NASARAWA State

Ongoing support for the development of family planning costed implementation plan in Nasarawa State to make budgeting evidence based.

Identification and capacity building of Child and Family Health Champions from within the government from the 3 states

Tracking of Health Budget allocation, releases and expenditure by trained State CSOs, and other partners.

An Increase is Budget for Family planning from N5 Million to N25 Million as a result of the PACFaH Advocacy .

PACFaH Success.

Through the advocacy efforts by HERFON Kaduna Chapter, the PHC Law that was signed in 2008 was amended to meet NPHCDA standards by 2014. Further improvement was followed by the gazzetting of Kaduna PHC Law
